A shameless plug ( - if not here, then where?) Two of my poems are being published in The Red Wheelbarrow, a magazine of poetry published by the School of English at the University of St Andrews. Issue 17, that's issue 17 folks, available from their website: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~redbarrow/.

A wonderful evening yesterday at the Glasgow Planetarium listening to Liz Lochead and Jim Carruth read poems about stars. Some old favourites of mine such as Elizabeth Jennings' Delay, and others that were new to me. The selection would make a great book, or better still, CD. It was magical.

Douglas Dunn's reading at St Mungo's Mirrorball the other week was fantastic. I'd not heard him read before. I remember reading his poems at school - I loved the poems about Terry Street - the way objects are transformed in them - the trowel catching the light or the lawnmower becoming a sign of hope for a better life. I think his poems are metaphysical in that way.

I'm really enjoying hearing poets read now that I'm up in Ayrshire. The fabulous Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh hosts wonderful readings through its Encounters series. I really enjoyed hearing John Burnside the other week, and Kathleen Jamie is going to read a week on Thursday.
