What a wonderful day! I've just got home from an all day writing event to mark the beginning of spring on the 1st of February. The day was dedicated to Brigid, patron saint of poetry, smith-craft and healing, and organised by Lapidus, an organisation working with words to promote health and wellbeing. Held in the calming and embracing Maggie's Centre in Glasgow, the day began with two tellings of Brigid's story by storytellers Allison Galbraith and Margot Henderson. Margot also ran a workshop about the process of writing poetry, in which it was lovely to share thoughts about how poems are made. In the afternoon I took part in a workshop with Donny O'Rourke. His knowledge and insights about the poems he shared with us made for an invigorating and hugely rewarding afternoon. Both workshops were transformed by people's willingness to share ideas and energy so freely. There was a book launch of The Poet's Way by Manjusvara, and an open mic session complete with some wonderful songs. The day ended with a fire ritual to mark leaving the old behind and beginning the new. I've returned with a notebook full of things to look up and ideas to develop and a resolve to begin anew.

my confirmation name is Brigid - after the saint but herself named after the goddess
