Douglas Dunn's reading at St Mungo's Mirrorball the other week was fantastic. I'd not heard him read before. I remember reading his poems at school - I loved the poems about Terry Street - the way objects are transformed in them - the trowel catching the light or the lawnmower becoming a sign of hope for a better life. I think his poems are metaphysical in that way.I'm really enjoying hearing poets read now that I'm up in Ayrshire. The fabulous Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh hosts wonderful readings through its Encounters series. I really enjoyed hearing John Burnside the other week, and Kathleen Jamie is going to read a week on Thursday.
